I spent more than thirty years in the software business, including founding Intouch Technology Group, where we were early pioneers of subscription-based software.
I know that business model rather well.
But personally, I like owning things. My computer, my software, my data and my operating system. And increasingly, neither Windows nor macOS felt like a place where I was really in control.
I originally began building Altima because I wanted to run our own business software on our own computers, without depending on somebody else's infrastructure.
Along the way, I realised something. We have become remarkably comfortable surrendering control of technology we've already paid for.
Altima is my small contribution to changing that.
Take your time exploring this release. It's free, it's yours to use, and I hope it encourages you to become part of the growing local-first computing movement.
